Gamifying my life (week 6)

I should stop writing these updates as the last thing on Sunday night. It is unnecessarily harder, but I managed to start, so I might as well continue, LOL.

Habitica

This week has been pretty slow and mostly unproductive. I just didn’t have any motivation to do anything extra. Yesterday, though, I discovered a very interesting to-do app called Habitica. Currently, I have been using TickTick which works perfectly for me, but Habitica offers something extra and that is stimulation and consequences. Habitica isn’t your ordinary to-do list. It is sort of a video game. You have health, skill, and mana points. You set the difficulty of your task/habit and earn equivalent reward or punishment. If you do well, you get rewarded with EXP points and gold which you can exchange for better gear, weapons, pets, or a real-world reward such as 1 more episode of Netflix or something like that. On the other hand, if you miss a task or habit, your character will take damage. Miss too many chores and your character will die. Although the punishments aren’t too harsh, it still sucks. You will lose all your gold, experience, and one level. I will try using Habitica for the next week and will update you on my progress.

3D printing

While I was being unproductive, I was doing a little research about 3D printing. It is a truly fascinating hobby. You can print anything from toys, boats, kitchen appliances, to real guns! Of course, for the last thing you’re going to need some metal parts and a gun license, but it is totally possible. I might buy a 3D printer myself in the near future, but I will wait a little more, just in case this is another case of shiny object syndrome.
