How I started remembering my dreams (week 11)

Dreams and the state of unconsciousness are a very fascinating topic. Today, I will tell you how I learned to remember most of my dreams.

The technique

It is quite simple… You just need to force yourself the next morning to try to remember. I know it sounds silly, but think of it like a meditation. Actually, meditating could help immensely, but I haven’t tried that yet. Take a few minutes before you start your day, close your eyes, take a deep breath and start talking to yourself. I usually literally ask myself; “What did I dream of last night?”, “What was the last thing I was thinking about before I fell asleep?”. Something among those lines. For me, it works every other or every third night, but that is a massive improvement in my case because I can go weeks without remembering anything. I used to just close my eyes and “immediately” wake up the next day.

My observations so far

I’ve noticed a repeating pattern in my dreams. I dream about the things I desire or fear. This week I only had 1 bad dream, but it wasn’t a nightmare, more of a projection of what I’ve been feeding to my subconscious mind. Other than that, I had only very pleasant dreams about my future and things I want to accomplish in life. Now that I think about it, this might be because I also started visualizing my future and the things I intend to manifest before I fall asleep.

There is nothing to buy

I strive for greatness, I strive for a wealthy lifestyle, but I have become aware that there’s nothing money can buy. I watch many rich people online, I like looking at unboxing of fancy watches, the latest sports cars, luxurious real estate with fancy views of the mountains or beaches. But ultimately, I understand that there is nothing to buy. Once you have 6 cars, 5 properties, maybe a yacht. There is nothing more that money can buy. You can, of course, purchase experiences, but there’s also a limited supply of those, and I wouldn’t wanna risk my life just for a temporary adrenaline rush (skydiving, swimming with sharks etc.). I believe this is yet another reminder for me, that I’ve been here plenty of times before. That this isn’t anything new to me, and that I should be focusing on other things than material wealth and success.

Programming is still fun

Lua is still something I consider fun doing. I like the challenge and love to strain the brain. This Friday I did something with almost no external help. I recreated the DVD screen saver.

It took me longer than I wanted, but eventually, I got it to work, haha. I still struggle a little with the math side of programming. There are things you just have to learn and remember otherwise you’re screwed.

Physical note-taking.

This week, I also tried physical note-taking instead of digital. So far, I’d say that in some regards it is better than digital. I will do both though for the sake of convenience and portability. Everything I will write on paper, I will later rewrite on my computer. I wouldn’t wanna lose my thoughts just because I spilled my notebook with coffee or something like that. Also, because there are things you just can’t do on paper. Having a knowledge base would technically be possible on paper, but very inconvenient. Moreover, paper doesn’t have all the fancy features such as collections, filters, bookmarks, and other conveniences’ haha.

Songs I loved this week
